Mpango tells women to champion peace

ABIDJAN, IVORY COAST: VICE-PRESIDENT Dr Philip Mpango has called on women to remain steadfast in promoting peace, emphasising the importance of raising children in a peaceful and prosperous environment.
Dr Mpango made the call yesterday after attending Holy Mass for the Sixth Sunday of Easter at St Peter Catholic Church Blockhauss in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, where the service was led by Father Felicien Aguie.
It is always important to remember that Jesus Christ left us peace, not war,” said Dr Mpango, urging the faithful to embrace and uphold the values of peace within their families and communities.
He congratulated the congregation for their continued devotion to God and active participation in spiritual life, commending especially the women of the church for their recent observance of International Women’s Day at the parish.
“I applaud the women of this church for their dedication to raising children in the right way and for playing a vital role in maintaining peace,” he added.

During the service, Father Felicien Aguie praised Tanzania for its longstanding commitment to peace and stability, both domestically and across the African continent.
He noted that Tanzania is widely known as a peaceful and welcoming nation, appreciated by visitors from around the world.
The service included special prayers for Tanzania, reflecting the strong bonds of faith and unity among African nations.
Dr Mpango was accompanied by Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Dennis Londo and Tanzania’s Ambassador to Ivory Coast, based in Nigeria, Ambassador Selestine Kakele.
The Vice-President is currently in Ivory Coast representing President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the African Development Bank (AfDB), scheduled to take place from May 26 to 30, 2025, in Abidjan.
