Minister orders TARURA to blacklist contractors over projects delay

DODOMA: THE Minister of State in the President’s Office for Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG), Mohamed Mchengerwa, has directed the Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) to blacklist both local and foreign contractors who fail to complete projects scheduled for completion by the end of this month.

Mr Mchengerwa has also instructed TARURA to conduct a nationwide assessment of all projects that were due for completion by January this year but remain unfinished and to submit a comprehensive report to his office without delay.

Mr Mchengerwa issued the directives in Dodoma on Thursday during the signing of contracts for the renovation of the Majengo Main Market, Mshikamano Commuter Bus Terminal, improvement of the Kizota Bus Stand, construction of the Nzuguni Bus Stand and the development of waterway crossings at Chaduru, Mailimbili and Ntyuka. He said the projects are worth over 14bn/-.

“We cannot tolerate contractors who fail to meet the expectations and honour the agreement. President Samia Suluhu Hassan is tirelessly securing funds for national development, but it is a shame some contractors remain sluggish in their work,” said Mr Mchengerwa.

He added that contractors who have not fully completed previous projects should not be awarded new projects under TARURA.

“I also instruct TARURA to evaluate all ongoing projects nationwide that were due for completion in January but remain unfinished and submit a detailed report without delay,” he added.

The Minister added: “President Samia secures the necessary funds, yet some contractors fail to deliver. Whether they are Tanzanian or foreign, such companies should not be awarded new contracts until they fulfill their current obligations.”

Meanwhile, the Minister tasked Dodoma Regional Commissioner, Ms Rosemary Senyamule, District Commissioners and the Municipal Council Director to immediately meet the Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC) officials and come up with proper system for accessing and exiting the Samia Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) station.

“The regional leadership team must meet the TRC officials and come up with a plan on how you are going to set up a concrete system at the main station, this must be done within a week,” he ordered.

The Minister instructed TARURA to prioritise road infrastructure improvements in Dodoma City and to conduct an assessment of roads slated for construction in the 2025/26 financial year.

He also urged municipal council directors benefiting from the Tanzania Cities Transforming Infrastructure & Competitiveness (TACTIC) project which is worth over 1.1tri/- covering 45 cities and municipalities to ensure strict supervision of the project for the benefit of the citizens.

Dodoma Urban MP, Mr Anthony Mavunde, underscored the importance of upgrading the Majengo Market. He noted that for over 20 years, 1,760 traders have been operating under harsh conditions.

He said the renovation would greatly improve accessibility and safety, particularly in emergency situations. Similarly, the Chairman of the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) in Dodoma District, Charles Mamba warned that the party would not tolerate any attempts to obstruct or interfere with the implementation of the project
