Tanzania allocates 424bn/- for infrastructural projects in Rukwa

RUKWA: THE Tanzanian government has allocated 424.6bn/- for the implementation of the various development projects in the Rukwa Region.
These projects include the renovation of the Sumbawanga Airport and the construction of tarmac roads, as part of ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and stimulate social and economic development in the region.
According to the Rukwa Regional Manager for the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS), Engineer Mgeni Mwanga, the government is currently carrying out renovation and improvement works at the Sumbawanga Airport, with the project now 86 percent complete.
Engineer Mwanga also reported that the government is undertaking emergency construction works for three bridges along the Kasansa–Kilyamatundu road. These bridges were severely damaged due to heavy rainfall caused by the El Niño weather phenomenon and the impacts of Cyclone Hidaya. The emergency construction is valued at 23.183bn/-.

The Rukwa Region has a road network totaling 1,250.84 kilometers. Of this network, trunk roads cover 415.86 kilometers, while regional roads account for 834.98 kilometers. Within the trunk road network, 298.35 kilometers are paved with tarmac, and 117.31 kilometers are gravel roads.
These infrastructure initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to enhancing transportation and logistics systems to spur economic growth, increase investment opportunities, and improve service delivery for residents in Rukwa and surrounding regions.
