Swimmers set to make waves on global stage in 2025

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA’S swimming community is gearing up for a landmark moment as seven of the nation’s finest athletes prepare to represent the country at two prestigious international competitions in 2025.
With unwavering determination and national pride, these swimmers are poised to showcase their talent in Romania and Singapore, raising the Tanzanian flag high in the world of aquatic sports.
The spotlight will shine first on the junior squad, who have earned a coveted place at the World Aquatic Junior Swimming Championships, scheduled to take place in Romania from August 15 to 25.
The five-member team includes Filbertha Demello, Bridget Heep, Romeo Mihaly Mwaipasi, Austin Okore and Mark Tibazarwa.
These rising stars have trained relentlessly over the past year, earning their spots through sheer dedication and outstanding performance.
As shared via their official social media platforms, “This is a proud moment for these young swimmers and their coaches. They will not only represent Tanzania but also gain invaluable experience competing against the world’s top junior athletes.”
Meanwhile, on the senior stage, Collins Saliboko and Michael Joseph are set to compete at the World Aquatic Swimming Championships in Singapore from July 24 to August 4.

As two of the nation’s most accomplished swimmers, they carry the hopes of a growing sports community eager to see Tanzanian athletes excel on the world’s biggest aquatic platforms.
Their participation marks a milestone for Tanzania’s swimming programme, signalling the strides being made in talent development, coaching and international exposure.
The Tanzania Swimming Association has expressed strong confidence in the delegation, emphasising that these competitions are not only a test of individual skill but also a reflection of the country’s rising presence in the global swimming arena.
“These athletes represent the progress of our swimming development initiatives. We believe their performances will motivate many young Tanzanians to dive into the sport and pursue excellence,” said an official from the Association.
