MOROGORO: Airtel Tanzania has constructed a 4G communication tower in Idete Village, Kilosa District, Morogoro, set to benefit approximately 7,000 residents.
This move is expected to open up new economic and social opportunities for the local community.
Speaking during a visit to inspect the tower’s progress, the Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Jerry Silaa, highlighted that the construction aligns with President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan’s vision of a digital Tanzania and the expansion of communication networks to remote areas.
“As the District Commissioner mentioned, this tower will greatly benefit farmers and pastoralists, eliminating the need for them to travel to Kilosa town for communication. They will now be able to stay connected with their customers, sell their produce, and communicate with relatives,” said Minister Silaa. “The goal is to ensure that all Tanzanians can communicate effectively, just like other citizens across the country.”
Minister Silaa also emphasized that the tower would not only serve Idete Village but also contribute to connecting 8.5 million people across Tanzania.

He added that funding for the project was provided by President Samia Suluhu Hassan to ensure improved communication in underserved areas.
Airtel Tanzania’s Public Relations Manager, Jackson Mmbando, confirmed that construction of the tower is ahead of schedule, with plans to have it operational by April 1, 2025.
“Our engineers have worked efficiently, and the tower is set to be turned on soon. Additionally, we have identified local agents who will facilitate Airtel services in the area, including Airtel Money,” Mmbando noted.
The project, developed in collaboration with the Universal Communications Service Access Fund (UCSAF), is expected to significantly impact the local economy and improve communication accessibility.
Mmbando encouraged residents to take advantage of the opportunities created by the new tower, including access to mobile services and financial transactions.
