THREE officers of the Tanzania Forestry Services Agency (TFS) serving at the Silayo Tree Plantations located in Chato District, Geita Region have survived death after being attacked by unknown people.
The Chief Conservation Officer of the Silayo Tree Plantations, Mr Juma Mseti told the Regional Commissioner (RC) Mr Martin Shigella, who visited the injured officers at Waja Hospital that they were attacked over the weekend while working at the plantations.
“They were attacked by about 30 people with various traditional weapons such as machetes and swords. The attackers were claiming that they do not want trees to be planted in that area as it is their village area.
“But for sure those are invaders who are trying to hinder the government work. After receiving information about the incident, we went to the location with police officers to rescue our officers. We rushed them to the health centre and later to the Waja Hospital for further treatment.
“They suffered multiple injuries on the legs and their backs. Incidents of this nature are really frightening and retrogressive to the development and it should be condemned,” he said.
The Doctor in Charge at Waja Hospital, Dr Nehemia Chilave saying they are responding well to the treatment.
RC Shigella directed the Police Force to mount search for the people involved in the incidence for the legal actions to be taken against them.
