Tanzanian MP calls for increased youth participation in policymaking, peacebuilding

ISTANBUL, Türkiye: Tanzanian Member of Parliament, Fatma Rembo, has called for increased participation of young people in policymaking, peacebuilding, and development, stressing that youth should be key actors rather than passive observers in shaping the future of nations.

She made the remarks while addressing the Youth Forum of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) during the 152nd IPU Assembly currently underway at the Hilton Istanbul Bomonti Hotel in Istanbul, Türkiye.

Rembo emphasized that meaningful youth inclusion is critical in preventing conflicts, promoting reconciliation, and supporting post-conflict recovery, ultimately contributing to long-term national stability.

“The experience of Tanzania demonstrates that empowering young people and women to take leadership roles strengthens national cohesion, builds trust in institutions and drives economic development, as reflected through investments in youth financing initiatives and their representation in government,” she said.

She further underscored the importance of building equitable economies by expanding opportunities for young people and strengthening international cooperation, noting that youth remain a vital pillar in achieving sustainable peace, inclusive economic growth and accountable leadership worldwide.

During the session, Rembo also extended an invitation to young parliamentarians from member states to visit Tanzania in October 2026 to attend the 153rd IPU Assembly and explore the country’s tourism attractions and diverse investment opportunities across key economic sectors.
