Zanzibar to host cycling event

ZANZIBAR: THE Cycling Federation of Tanzania (CHABATA) has confirmed Zanzibar will host cycling event from June 20th to 22nd.

The CHABATA Chairman, Godfrey Mhagama, announced that preparations are progressing rapidly, with the federation committed to organising the event to the highest standards, showcasing Tanzania’s potential as a hub for competitive cycling.

“Our preparations are progressing at a steady pace, with a strong focus on quality. This event is not just a race; it’s a platform to revive and elevate the status of cycling in Tanzania,” Mhagama stated.

He noted that the main goal is to promote the sport both domestically and internationally, restoring its former prestige and encouraging wider participation.

“Events like the Tour of Zanzibar are crucial in inspiring the community to engage with cycling, not only as a sport but as a lifestyle, a form of exercise and a potential source of employment and opportunities,” he added.

Mhagama also highlighted the event’s unique opportunity to showcase Zanzibar’s rich cultural heritage and its tourism offerings to a global audience.

“We invite stakeholders from all sectors to join us in making this event a success. Their support will be vital in ensuring that the event is impactful, inclusive and executed professionally,” he said.

Furthermore , Mhagama called upon partners, sponsors and cycling enthusiasts to support the initiative, aiming to raise the profile of Tanzanian cycling on the international stage.
