NBC applauds football surge, youth talent focus

DAR ES SALAAM: The National Bank of Commerce (NBC), the main sponsor of the NBC Under-20 Youth League, has voiced its satisfaction with the competitive spirit and quality displayed by the clubs in the vibrant league.

With a focus on fostering the next generation of football talents in the country, NBC has reaffirmed its dedication to this crucial platform for youth development.

Making the revelation, the bank’s Head of the Finance and Business Department Mr. Joseph Lyuba, who is also the Chairman of the NBC Premier League Internal Committee, emphasized that for clubs in the NBC Championship and NBC Premier League to elevate their performance, nurturing new talent each season is essential.

He further said that this strategy not only promises to elevate performance, but also intensifies the excitement and enjoyment for fans who live and breathe the beautiful game.

“The impetus behind NBC’s sponsorship of this youth league stems from our ambition for a premier league that boasts both quality and competitiveness, powered by the homegrown talent we cultivate here in Tanzania,” he pointed out.

Adding: “We firmly believe that establishing a strong foundation at this level of talent development is vital for creating an attractive and fiercely competitive NBC Premier League. Witnessing the progress in this area brings us great joy, and we expect its positive impact to be seen across the NBC Championship, NBC Premier League, and even in our national team.”

Mr Lyuba’s sentiments were shared during an exhilarating trophy presentation ceremony for Azam FC (U20), the champions of the league for the 2024/2025 season, who triumphed with a narrow 1-0 victory over Fountain Gate (U20). The decisive goal was netted by striker Carlos Chasambi just 11 minutes into the match, setting the tone for an electrifying contest.

The vibrant atmosphere at Chamazi Complex in Dar es Salaam was palpable, as passionate fans and stakeholders gathered to celebrate the culmination of the season. Among the dignitaries present were Wallace Karia, President of the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF); TFF Secretary General Wilfred Kidao; and Lameck Nyambaya, Chairman of the Dar es Salaam Regional Football Association (DRFA).

In acknowledging the efforts of all participating clubs, Lyuba extended heartfelt congratulations to the champions Azam FC (U20) and the runners-up Fountain Gate FC (U20), as well as their coaching staff and the TFF. He highlighted the league’s improved competitiveness, reinforcing the promising trajectory of football in the nation.

“At NBC, we are determined to enhance our sponsorship across all three leagues we support. Our aim is to bolster competition, elevate the status of these leagues, create job opportunities, and improve the livelihoods of all those involved in this cherished sport, from players to coaching staff,” he added.

Reflecting on the thrilling competitions, Azam FC (U20) Head Coach Kassim Liogope expressed pride in his team’s performance and commended his players, the team’s management, the TFF, and their sponsor, NBC. He noted that the heightened rivalry, especially showcased during the quarter-finals, demonstrated the evolving gameplay and significant improvement in the quality of the teams involved.
