Zanzi Half Marathon seeks sponsors

ZANZIBAR: ORGANISERS of the Zanzi Half Marathon have appealed to companies, institutions and individual sports enthusiasts to come forward and support this year’s edition of the marathon race.
The annual event, organised by the Zanzibar-based running club Kimbia Bila Shaka, attracts participants from various countries, along with local runners. This year’s race is set to take place on June 28 in Zanzibar.
The event features a 21- km half marathon, 10-km and 5-km races, as well as a 5-km walking category.
Speaking to the ‘Daily News’ from Zanzibar over the weekend, Laura Bjørn, club founder and race coordinator, confirmed that preparations are well underway.
Originally scheduled for December 2024 in Stone Town, Zanzibar, the race was postponed to June due to several factors aimed at enhancing the experience and overall impact of the event.
“The decision to reschedule was made to ensure a more enjoyable and comfortable race for everyone involved,” Laura explained.
She noted that many runners prefer cooler weather, as Zanzibar’s December heat can be challenging.
“By moving the race to June, we return to our roots offering a more comfortable, energising and enjoyable experience for all participants,” she said.
Laura stressed that the decision also reflects the club’s commitment to sports development and fostering a positive, inclusive running community.

“We need sponsors to ensure the race maintains its international reputation and remains accessible to a wide range of participants,” Laura stated.
She added that they are excited to invite companies to become valuable sponsors of the race, which aligns with a more favourable running season and continues to provide an unforgettable experience for participants.
“Your support will contribute to fostering ethical and moral responsibility for a better world, promoting authentic human values, and empowering women and girls in their personal growth,” she noted.
“Zanzi Half is a powerful platform dedicated to forging solidarity, courage and equity through sports. “Since 2019, these events champion the fundamental freedom of movement, break down barriers to gender equality and empower women and girls to stand equally in society,” she added.
However, she explaining the broader impact of race said “Together, we can build healthier, more inclusive communities and inspire positive change.”
