Yanga face Fountain Gate in crucial league clash
MANYARA: YOUNG Africans are set to take on Fountain Gate FC today in a Mainland Premier League encounter at Tanzanite Kwara Stadium in Manyara.
As the season nears its climax, every point matters — especially for teams at both ends of the table.
Young Africans currently sit at the top of the league with 67 points, maintaining a comfortable lead over arch-rivals Simba, who have three games in hand and remain their closest challengers.
On the other hand, Fountain Gate are positioned 10th on the table, with 29 points from 26 matches, as they aim to finish the season strong.
Ahead of the clash, Young Africans’ head coach addressed player availability, confirming several injuries within the squad.
Key players including Khalid Aucho and Zouzoua Pacome remain sidelined, while Kennedy Musonda is experiencing slight discomfort and Aziz Ki continues his recovery from a long-term injury.

“We indeed have some injured players — Aucho, Pacome is not yet ready, Musonda is feeling slight pain and Aziz Ki has been dealing with a long-term issue. But I respect all my players. I am not a coach who complains about who is or isn’t available.
Every player will be given a chance. That’s the only way we can reach May in a strong position, with all players having had game time. That is very important to me,” the coach explained.
He also stressed the importance of tactical discipline and team cohesion: “We must be very careful and aim to win every match. We’ve held technical meetings, watched video analysis and conducted specific training to prepare well. I always remind the players that the system is the real star of the game. If everyone understands the system, we’ll win many matches.
“We have the talent to make the system work — but understanding is the key. When players come on, they must know exactly what to do and what not to do. I believe my players understand this and we’ll continue to do well.”
Meanwhile, Fountain Gate’s coach acknowledged the strength of their opponents and compared the match to a battle of underdogs versus giants:
“We have worked on our mistakes. We will defend as a team and attack as a team. We’re fully aware of the quality of our opponents — anyone in their lineup can score. So we’ll stay alert on both ends of the pitch. Tomorrow’s game is like David versus Goliath.
