Yanga eye to end TP Mazembe’s home record

Young Africans are ready for the maiden conquest of Lubumbashi where they face hosts TP Mazembe in thir last group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup tomorrow.

The Jangwani Street landed safely in Lubumbashi yesterday ready to engage TP Mazembe and if they win they will be the first Tanzanian team to beat TP Mazembe  at their home ground.

For Yanga, it  is just a pride restoration match as they have qualified for the quarter final stage of the competition while to TP Mazembe it will be just a revenge mission after losing 3-1 to Yanga in Dar es Salaam.

It is set to be a tense encounter as the hosts, despite losing  a quarter final stage , they would  like to shrug off a fifth loss after losing four matches consecutively.

“We have had good training sessions and we have arrived in Lubumbashi ready for the game. All logistics have been completed ahead of the encounter,” said Yanga’s Manager Walter Harrison.

He also disclosed that players who were in Taifa Stars squad rejoined the camp ahead of the journey while those who traveled outside the country for AFCON engagements were expected to join the team in Lubumbashi.

“Our target is to do well over TP Mazembe so that we can have a chance of ending group stage campaign at the top of the table,” he said.

Currently, Yanga top group D with 10 points similar to their Tunisian counterpart US Monastir as the they are separated by goal difference.

From five matches played, Nasredinne Nabi’s charges have netted eight goals against six goals converted by their opponents whose unbeaten run elapsed at Benjamin Mkapa arena in Dar es Salaam after losing 2-0.

On third place are Real Bamako who have generated 5 points after winning one game and drawing twice whereas TP Mazembe sit at the bottom of the table with 3 points courtesy of one win.

However, history books have been redrafted as for the first time, Tanzania has deployed two teams in the quarterfinals of the CAF Interclub Games signifying that the country’s football standards are skyrocketing.

With Simba flying high the flag colours in the CAF Champions League, there is no doubt that the two envoys will make it beyond the quarterfinal stage to keep scaling up the beautiful game thereby putting the country on a world face.
