Yanga, Coastal set for fierce Federation Cup battle

DAR ES SALAAM: YOUNG Africans SC (Yanga) will take to the pitch today as they face Coastal Union in a Federation Cup round-of-32 clash at KMC Complex Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

The defending champions head into the match with confidence after a dominant 5-0 victory over Copco FC of Mwanza in their previous tournament fixture. Coastal Union secured their spot in this round following a commanding 4-0 win against Stand FC from Masasi.

Yanga’s Communication and Information Officer, Ally Kamwe, stated in Dar es Salaam yesterday that the team was prepared and committed to defending their title.

“As defending champions, we have a well-balanced squad with experienced players who understand the intensity of knockout matches. Our goal is to secure another victory and continue our strong run from the previous season,” Kamwe stated.

He added that the team remains focused and determined, with players eager to uphold the club’s legacy. Despite their recent success, Yanga are not underestimating their opponents.

“Our big win over Copco FC has boosted our confidence, but we remain cautious and focused on the task ahead,” Kamwe said.

On the other hand, Coastal Union’s head coach, Juma Mwambusi, stressed the importance of discipline as his team prepared to take on a formidable opponent.

“After our last Premier League match, where we drew against Dodoma Jiji, we immediately shifted our focus to this crucial cup fixture. Knockout matches are always tough, but we are ready for the challenge,” Mwambusi noted.

Coastal Union, however, will have to overcome a difficult run of form in the Premier League, having failed to win any of their last six matches since their 2-1 victory over JKT Tanzania at Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium in Arusha on February 7.

With both teams aiming for a spot in the next round, today’s encounter promises to be an exciting and competitive battle.
