World Customs Organization awards TPA boss

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Director General of the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA), Plasduce Mbossa, has been awarded a Certificate of Honour in recognition of his leadership, acknowledging and appreciating his contribution and exceptional service to the international customs community.

The award was presented by the World Customs Organization (WCO) on behalf of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) during the 2026 International Customs Day celebrations in Dar es Salaam.

According to the authority, the certificate of honor was awarded in recognition of TPA’s outstanding performance under Mbossa’s leadership and its significant contribution to supporting and strengthening the international customs community, particularly through improvements in systems, procedures, and institutional collaboration.

Speaking during the handover of the certificate, TRA Commissioner General Yusuph Mwenda commended TPA for its close and long-standing cooperation with TRA, noting that it has significantly contributed to improving the efficiency of customs operations at ports, facilitating trade, and strengthening government revenue control.

“ TPA has continued to be a key stakeholder and a model institution, upholding the principles of professionalism, accountability, and integrity, while working closely with TRA in implementing improvements to customs systems and procedures for the benefit of the nation,” he said.

In his remarks, the TPA Director General thanked TRA and the Tanzania Customs Administration for recognizing both his personal contribution and that of TPA as an institution, and pledged to further strengthen the existing partnership to enhance port efficiency and contribute more to the country’s economic growth.

The 2026 International Customs Day celebrations aimed to recognize and honor the role of the customs sector in promoting legitimate trade, safeguarding the national economy, increasing government revenue collection, and strengthening accountability and cooperation between TRA and its key stakeholders, including institutions overseeing ports and international trade.
