After venturing into the knockout stage of the 2022 Amputee Football World Cup, Tanzania envoys Tembo Warriors will face Japan in a decisive encounter tomorrow.
The country’s representatives finished third in group E with four points thereby earning automatic qualification as best looser to the last 16 of the world cup finals unfolding in Istanbul, Turkey.
They produced a convincing 2-0 win over Uzbekistan in their last match of the group on Monday which earned them maximum points hence sailing through.
Steven Manumbu and Alfan Kiyanga were on target for Tembo Warriors as they silenced Uzbekistan who had already qualified for the last 16 and will face Colombia.
As such; Tembo Warriors are the only team in group E to beat Uzbekistan who defeated Poland 3-1 and Spain 3-0 before losing to Tanzania.
Spain finished on fourth place thereby exiting from the contest after a poor display which saw them claiming one point courtesy of a barren draw with Tanzania in their inaugural match.
Reaching into the knockout stage has since necessitated them to be awarded 40m/- which was a pledge made by government through the Minister for Culture, Arts and Sports Mohamed Mchengerwa.
He again pledged that if they excel to penetrate into the semifinals, they will be handed 80m/- and a finals slot will see them pocketing 100m/- respectively.
Meanwhile, Mchengerwa together with the ministry’s Permanent Secretary Hassan Abbasi are in Turkey boosting up morale to Tembo Warriors squad.
The Warriors are making a maiden appearance at the Amputee Football World Cup a thing which most pundits have described as a milestone of driving further the country’s Amputee Football.
