Madina finishes second at NCBA Ruiru Open 2026 in Kenya

KIAMBU: TANZANIAN golfers Madina Iddi and Neema Olomi delivered impressive performances at the NCBA Ruiru Open 2026, a three-day, 54-hole tournament that concluded over the weekend at Ruiru Sports Club in Kenya.

The prestigious championship attracted more than 110 top male and female golfers from Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Russia and the United Kingdom, competing across various categories.

Madina and Olomi were among the 36 players who survived the cut after the opening two rounds, earning places in the final round as they battled for top honours, a share of the Ksh500,000 prize purse and valuable World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points.

Representing Arusha Gymkhana Club (AGC), Madina emerged as one of the standout performers from Tanzania.

She opened the tournament with a brilliant one-under-par 72 before matching that score in the second round. In the final round, she carded a one-over-par 74 on the par-73 course to finish with an aggregate score of 218, one-under-par overall.

Her impressive performance earned her a share of second place alongside Kenya’s John Kamaisi, who returned rounds of 73, 76 and 69, and Josphat Rono, who posted scores of 71, 73 and 74. Rwanda’s Felix Dusabe finished fifth after rounds of 71, 71 and 77.

Neema, also representing AGC, displayed remarkable resilience throughout the tournament. She registered rounds of 78, 73 and 80 for a total score of 231, finishing 12-over-par and tied for 25th place.

Despite facing a strong international field, the performances of Madina and Neema underlined the growing strength and competitiveness of women’s golf in Tanzania.

Their qualification for the final round and respectable finishes against some of the region’s best players provide further encouragement for the continued development of the sport in the country.

Kenya’s Eugine Wafula emerged as the overall champion with a two-underpar total of 217 after posting rounds of 70, 73 and 74. His victory saw the tournament crown a new champion following the departure of two-time winner John Lejirma to the professional ranks.

The NCBA Ruiru Open remains one of Kenya’s premier amateur golf tournaments and serves as an important platform for East African golfers to test themselves against top regional and international competition.
