Women outperform men in Tanzania’s CPA exams

DAR ES SALAAM: Tanzania’s National Board of Accountants and Auditors (NBAA) has announced that women have outperformed  men in the latest Certified Public Accountant (CPA) examinations, accounting for 54.4 percent of all successful candidates.

NBAA Executive Director, CPA Prof. Siasa Mzenzi, announced the results in Dar es Salaam while releasing the outcomes of the board’s 103rd examination session, which was conducted in May 2026.

Prof. Mzenzi said the performance reflects a growing interest among women in pursuing the accounting profession and is expected to increase their participation in the sector while promoting greater gender inclusion in key areas of the country’s economy.

According to NBAA, a total of 7,715 candidates sat for examinations across various accounting qualification levels in 2026. Of these, 3,794 were women, representing 49.2 percent of all candidates, while men accounted for the remaining 50.8 percent.

Despite making up slightly less than half of the total candidates, women recorded a higher pass rate than their male counterparts, underscoring their strong academic performance in this year’s CPA examinations.

The NBAA is Tanzania’s statutory professional body responsible for regulating the accounting and auditing profession, including the administration of professional examinations and the development of accounting standards.
