WHO hails the efficiency of Tanzania’s Laboratory for Epidemic Diseases

DODOMA: THE World Health Organization (WHO) has said the National Laboratory for Epidemic Diseases has met the criteria for increasing the number and type of infectious disease tests that can be carried out in the country instead of shipping samples abroad.

This was stated when the Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Grace Magembe, held talks with the Resident Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Tanzania, Dr. Alex Ntale Gasasira.

The talks aimed to strengthen health services in the country, particularly during preparations for the implementation of the Universal Health Coverage Program, the development of the Sixth Health Sector Strategic Plan (HSSP VI), and to agree on the best way to enhance services for citizens.

In addition, the Chief Medical Officer has received a report from the WHO Africa Region expert team presented by Ms. Chinenyenwa Josephine Henshaw on the assessment of the National Laboratory’s capacity in testing for infectious diseases.
