Wenger in for AFL inaugural match

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) President, Wallace Karia has confirmed that former Arsenal Manager, Arsène Wenger is among the high-profile foreign officials set to grace today’s African Football League (AFL) inaugural match.

Simba host Al Ahly at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam to tee off the eight-team tournament slated to conclude on November 11th when the first AFL champions will be crowned.

Speaking on Thursday in the city, Karia named Wenger, who is FIFA’s Technical Director as part of the FIFA delegation to attend the inaugural ceremony.

“Visitors have already begun arriving and the last to arrive will be FIFA President, Gianni Infantino and CAF President, Patrice Motsepe who will also pay a courtesy call to President Samia Suluhu Hassan in Dodoma,” Karia said.

Other high profiles to attend include 54 football federation presidents from Africa. He added that former football players will also attend.

“The coming of these individuals into the country will facilitate economic growth, bearing in mind that they will need accommodation, food and transport and all of these will be provided by Tanzanians. This is the indirect impact of football on our economy,” he noted.

In terms of entertainment, Simba announced that Bongo Flavour artist Ali Kiba is among the musicians who will line up to entertain.
