Wasira vows to strengthen CCM

DODOMA: CHAMA Cha Mapinduzi CCM, through its Extraordinary General Meeting, has unanimously elected its political veteran Stephen Wasira as its Vice-Chairperson (Mainland).
Wasira pledged to strengthen the party and promote reconciliation as key priorities in his new role.
Wasira was announced as CCM Vice Chairperson (Mainland) by the party’s National Chairperson President Samia Suluhu Hassan after garnering 1,910 votes out of 1921 votes cast, equivalent to 99.4 per cent. Mr Wasira succeeds Abdulrahman Kinana, who resigned in July last year.
This marks a significant step for the party as the country prepares for the General Election later this year. In his vote of thanks after being elected, Mr Wasira outlined key priorities for his new role, including focusing on strengthening the party to secure a landslide victory in the upcoming General Election and promoting reconciliation.
He insisted on the two core roles of the party as outlined in its manifesto, particularly in Article Five: winning elections and securing power at all levels in local government and general election in both Mainland and Zanzibar.
Mr Wasira urged CCM cadres to prepare thoroughly to ensure the party excels in the upcoming General Elections slated for October this year.
Mr Wasira also made it clear that he will promote reconciliation as one of the 4Rs philosophy of President Samia, taking into account that CCM is a party of unity, peace and reconciliation, which are fundamental for bringing development to the country.
“I want the world to know and for CCM members to understand, that our party stands for unity, peace and reconciliation these are our core values. We have been entrusted with this country to foster development, but this can only be achieved through peace,” said Mr Wasira.
He added that, “We are entrusted with this nation to serve, but we cannot do that work if there is no peace. Our chairperson has come up with 4Rs philosophy and as his assistant, I want to make it clear that one of my initial focuses will be on promoting reconciliation.”
Furthermore, he expressed his gratitude to CCM National Chairperson President Samia, the National Executive Committee and members for entrusting him with the new role in his life, he also thanked his predecessors, acknowledging their distinguished service to the party, pledging to learn from them.

Extending his gratitude to President Samia, Mr Kinana thanked her for entrusting him with the role and for nominating him twice, as well as for the opportunity to work with her as Vice-Chairperson, promising to continue collaborating with CCM as requested by the chairperson.
Mr Kinana further urged CCM cadres to fully support the Chairperson ahead of the upcoming General Election. “CCM is a strong and respected party among Tanzanians.
It has been entrusted with the leadership of our country and I have no doubt it will continue to receive this trust, not for any other reason but because it has good policies and a solid manifesto.
It is close to the people, cares for their needs and holds the government accountable,” said Mr Kinana.
