Uphold professionalism, TCRA urges journalists

KAGERA: THE Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) has urged reporters across the country to uphold ethical standards in their reporting, guided by the four principles of fairness, accuracy, impartiality and objectivity in their work.
TCRA Manager for the Communication Service Users’ Division, Engineer Kadaya Baluhye told reporters during a one-day media training held in Bukoba Municipality on Tuesday that maintaining professionalism and objectivity is crucial for journalists to uphold the integrity of their work.
“As journalists, you must ensure that you provide accurate and reliable information. You also have a responsibility to promote peace through your writing and broadcasting. You should also uphold professional ethics which is essential for maintaining the integrity of the journalism profession,” he stressed.
Eng Kadaya underscored the importance of demonstrating journalism competence and avoid actions which tarnish the reputation of the journalism profession.

He explained that professionalism across the world demands that media practitioners uphold the highest ethical standards in their reporting guided by the four principles of fairness, accuracy, impartiality and objectivity in their work.
Eng Kadaya explained that the media has a crucial role in nation building and ensuring that Tanzanians are kept abreast with achievements that the country continues to attain on all fronts.
Tanzania recently witnessed a rapid expansion in the media industry through increased numbers of media outlets including radio stations, televisions, newspapers and social platforms which has also provided employment opportunities to Tanzanians.
“We have a lot of good stories to tell about Tanzania. President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan is implementing people-centred projects and these efforts should be supported,” he said.
Speaking during the event, TCRA Zonal Licensing Manager, Engineer Aule Mileo said more efforts were being taken to increase the availability of network services especially in rural areas where most Tanzanians live.
