“Ensure that you adhere to your profession without being influenced by decisions from your bosses who may attempt to pressure you into providing unjust legal advice,” he said, adding; “Do your part legally, and leave the final decisions to your superiors.”

Dr Biteko made the remarks in Dodoma yester- day, during the Public Bar Association (PBA) Annual General Meeting (AGM), which brought together lawyers working in minis- tries, parastatals, and public corporations.

The two-day AGM, which commenced on Monday, concluded yesterday.

Dr Biteko said the vital role of public legal professionals in maintaining justice and public trust.

He underscored the importance of providing efficient, transparent, and fair legal advice, which he described as fundamental to national development and the rule of law.

“In an era where professionalism is paramount, you, as members of this vital association, hold the keys to a fair society,” he told the attendees.

The Deputy Prime Minister further assured the members that their welfare would soon be improved, stating that President Samia Suluhu Hassan had accepted their request for enhanced benefits.

“It’s just a matter of process and soon you will start receiving your allowances as requested,” he said, stressing the importance of motivating public lawyers to perform their duties in a conducive and supportive environment.

Earlier, Attorney General (AG) Mr Hamza Johari assured members that starting in July 2025, public lawyers would begin receiving various allowances, including for practice, housing, lunch, transport, and association fees.

Mr Johari reiterated that the rule of law is crucial for the implementation of the country’s Vision 2050, urging members to uphold legal principles while performing their public duties.

The AGM of the PBA serves as a platform for members to discuss important issues affecting the legal profession, including ongoing reforms, professional ethics and the enhancement of legal education.

During the meeting, members also voted for new leadership to guide the association’s activities for the upcoming period.

Dr Biteko urged the members to vote for leaders based on their capabilities, rather than personal relationships.

“There are times when people vote based on friendliness instead of capability, which is no different from voting based on race, colour, tribe, or religion,” he said.

At the meeting, Deputy Minister for Constitution and Legal Affairs, Mr Jumanne Sagini, called on lawyers from the PBA to ensure the legal profession remains responsive to the needs of society.
