UNESCO bridges Tanzania-India ties in education, science, culture, and communication

PARIS: TANZANIA and India have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in education, science, culture and communication through the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
The agreement emerged during talks between Tanzania’s Permanent Representative to UNESCO, Ambassador Saidi Othman Yakubu, and India’s Permanent Representative to UNESCO, Vishal V. Sharma, aimed at expanding collaboration on key development priorities within the UN agency.
The two diplomats exchanged views on UNESCO’s role in advancing sustainable development, safeguarding world cultural heritage and improving the quality of education and research while stressing the importance of cooperation among member states in addressing global challenges facing societies today.
During their discussion, Ambassador Yakubu described India as a key partner within UNESCO, citing its significant contributions to education, science and cultural development noting that Sharma’s extensive experience and deep understanding of UNESCO affairs have helped enhance awareness of opportunities available through the organization.

The meeting comes as Tanzania and India continue to strengthen their longstanding diplomatic relations, which are anchored in friendship, development cooperation and mutual respect. Bilateral ties have gained further momentum in recent years under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Sharma, a seasoned diplomat, currently serves as India’s Permanent Representative to UNESCO and has previously held several senior positions within the Indian government, including roles in the Prime Minister’s Office. He has been actively involved in international cooperation initiatives covering education, science and culture.
The discussions form part of ongoing efforts by the two countries to enhance cooperation in international forums, particularly UNESCO, in support of shared development goals and mutually beneficial partnerships.
