UMISSETA volleyball fever grips Iringa as teams battle for glory

IRINGA: THE Inter-Secondary School Games (UMISSETA) 2025 continued to electrify Iringa on Tuesday, as boys and girls’ volleyball teams from across Tanzania displayed thrilling action, fierce competition and exceptional talent on the courts.
In the boys’ category, the capital city of Dodoma sent a strong statement with a straight-sets victory over Arusha (3-0), while Shinyanga handed hosts Iringa a heavy 3-0 defeat.
Dar es Salaam also impressed, overcoming Ruvuma 3-1 in a tightly contested encounter.
Other notable results included Katavi edging Mtwara in a five-set thriller (3- 2) and Manyara sweeping past Njombe (3-0).
Kagera overpowered Songwe 3-1, while Tabora, Geita, Mwanza and Mbeya posted commanding wins over Simiyu, Singida, Kilimanjaro and Tanga, respectively.
In the girls’ matches, Ruvuma, Songwe and Kilimanjaro showcased strong coordination and dominance, each securing comfortable 3-0 victories over Mara, Kigoma and Dodoma, respectively.
Home side Iringa gave fans something to cheer about with a commanding 3-0 win over Morogoro, while Mbeya maintained their fine form, dismissing Manyara in straight sets.

Mwanza, Tabora, Simiyu and Mtwara also notched up vital wins to strengthen their positions as title contenders.
The ongoing tournament continues to unite students through spirited competition, sportsmanship and regional pride, as schools strive to carve their names into this year’s sporting legacy.
Beyond volleyball, the 2025 Inter-Secondary School Games in Iringa features a wide array of disciplines, showcasing the breadth of student talent across the nation.
Other sporting disciplines featured at the 2025 Inter-Secondary School Games in Iringa include football (soccer), basketball, athletics (track and field), handball (boys and girls), table tennis, tennis, hockey, cricket and swimming.
Additional highlights include boys’ rugby and girls’ netball, alongside taekwondo and other martial arts, presented both as competitive events and demonstration sports.
The games also proudly feature special needs sports, such as para-athletics and goalball, promoting inclusivity and equal opportunity.
Beyond competition, these events play a vital role in promoting physical fitness, discipline and teamwork.
Most importantly, they serve as a national platform for identifying and nurturing future stars, many of whom progress to represent Tanzania in regional and international sporting arenas.
