DAR ES SALAAM: SEVENTEEN teams will be vying for the top honour in the men and women’s categories of the National Volleyball Championship that commenced yesterday at Mwembe Yanga ground.
In the opening ladies fixtures, Orkeeswa asserted dominance with a commanding 3-0 victory over JKT, setting a high bar for the competition while on men’s side Jeshi Stars displayed formidable prowess on the court, securing a convincing 3-0 win against Mafinga Parish.
The Capital also delivered a stellar performance, emerging victorious with a decisive 3-0 triumph over Bandari Dar. During the opening, the competition chairperson, Riziki Mahenge, provided details to ‘Daily News’, outlining the structure and participants of this year’s event.

According to Mahenge, the competition features a total of seventeen teams, including seven men’s teams and five women’s teams.
The men’s teams competing in the championship are JKT, High Voltage, The Capital, Bandari Dar, Kigoma Port, Tanzania Prisons, Faru KV, Igombe, Jeshi Stars, and Chui.
On the other hand, the women’s teams include Korosho Queens, Mafinga Parish, Jeshi Stars, JKT, Tanzania Prisons, Bandari Dar, and Orkeeswa.
The tournament format consists of a two-group system for the men’s teams and a league system for the women’s teams, ensuring competitive matches throughout the event.
