DODOMA: MINISTER for Works, Mr Abdallah Ulega has warned on the acts of negligence and corruption among staff at the Tanzania Engineering and Manufacturing Services Agency (TEMESA), saying such malpractices could undermine all the good work the agency has done.
Speaking to the TEMESA management and regional managers in Dodoma recently, Mr Ulega said that the government was determined to make TEMESA the leading institution for servicing both government and private vehicles.
“We must fight against acts of negligence and corruption. This is the disease that destroys many institutions and we truly need to use all our power to combat it,” he said.
This was the first meeting between Minister Ulega and TEMESA since his appointment to the ministry earlier this month.
“Congratulations on starting the new strategy that will enable you to operate commercially by collaborating with the private sector when necessary to serve the community effectively. We at TEMESA must show people that if you pay me, I will deliver the work on time,” said Ulega.
He also commended institutions such as the Bank of Tanzania (BOT), EWURA, TANESCO and the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) for paying their debts on time and receiving quick services, urging other government institutions to sign quality and timely service contracts with TEMESA to help the agency reduce its debts.

Mr Ulega explained that over 67.4bn/- has been used in the past three years of President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s administration to build six new ferries, repair seven ferries and develop ferry infrastructure, including docking facilities and passenger buildings on Lake Victoria and the Indian Ocean.
The Minister used the meeting to applaud the ongoing repair of vehicle workshops across the country, stressing that these repairs should be accompanied by a change in mindset, expertise and the adoption of scientific and technological innovations to improve efficiency and effectiveness in their duties.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr Charles Msonde, spoke about the importance of collaboration among institutions in the Ministry of Works to share experiences and achieve the expected success for the citizens and the nation as a whole.
