Uhuru Torch Race to launch 51 development projects worth 101.9bn/-

MWANZA: A total 51 projects worth 101.9bnb/- will be reviewed, inspected and launched by the Uhuru Torch Race this year, as part of promoting development and ensuring that the projects being implemented bring productivity to the citizens.
The statement was made today by Mwanza Regional Commissioner, Mr Said Mtanda during a press conference at his office.
He said preparations for the Uhuru Torch Race reception have been completed and urged citizens to come out in large numbers to participate in all the activities that will take place during the race.
“Mwanza region expects to receive the Uhuru Torch Race on August 10 this year from Mara region, where it will be run through all eight councils in the region involving the inspection, launch and laying of foundation stones of development projects worth more than 101.9bn/-,” he said.
He said the Uhuru Torch Race will begin its journey in Mwanza region by being received in Ukerewe District before continuing to all eight regional councils, with the aim of visiting, inspecting, launching and laying foundation stones for various development projects.

Furthermore, He said the 2026 Uhuru Torch Race carries a message of continuing to strengthen peace, unity and national solidarity, while encouraging citizens to participate fully in development activities.
He urged citizens to turn out in large numbers in all areas where the Uhuru Torch race will pass, as well as taking advantage of the social services that will be provided including health screening and safe blood donation.
