UDSM opens ‘Silk Road Bookstore’

DAR ES SALAAM: The China Communications Construction Company Limited, the Confucius Institute and the University of Dar es Salaam Library, have unveiled the “Silk Road Bookstore: A Window for Reading Across Borders” during a vibrant “That’s China” activity held in the city over this week.

The collaboration aims to foster cultural exchange and mutual learning between China and Tanzania. University of Dar es Salaam Library, Acting Director Dr. Collin Kimaryo, Security Director of the Overseas Business Division (International Company) Wei Yonghua, and other key figures, attended the event that marked a significant step towards enhancing cultural understanding and knowledge exchange between the two nations.

Dr. Kimaryo highlighted that there has been a deep cultural heritage and the growing interest among students in learning about Chinese culture at the university. He emphasized the potential of the curated collection of books from “That’s China” activity to enrich students’ understanding of various facets of Chinese society, culture, and achievements, promoting cultural exchanges and mutual learning.

The event saw the donation of approximately 100 books, encompassing both Chinese and English titles. These books covered a wide range of topics, including Chinese politics, economy, society, culture, nature, food, and tourism. The generous contribution by the China Communications Construction Company Limited Tanzania Branch is seen as a crucial initiative to further integrate Chinese and Tanzanian cultures.

The unveiling ceremony not only symbolized the opening of a new chapter in cultural exchange but also underscored the commitment of the China Communications Construction Company to promote cultural integration. The event showcased the company’s dedication to bridging the gap and fostering understanding between China and Tanzania.

The diverse audience at the ceremony, including employees of the Tanzania branch, University of Dar es Salaam Library staff, and teachers and students from the Confucius Institute, highlighted the widespread interest and support for initiatives that promote cultural understanding and collaboration.
