UCSAF to roll out public internet to 20 lake zone sites

MWANZA: THE Universal Communications Service Access Fund (UCSAF)’s Lake Zone has identified 20 areas across Geita, Kagera, Mara, Mwanza, Shinyanga and Simiyu regions for public internet connection services in the 2026/2027 financial year.
UCSAF Lake Zone Manager, Advocate Fredy Kandonga, said in Mwanza yesterday that the sites had been entered into the Government Electronic Procurement System (NeST), paving the way for tender preparation and advertisement.

He said UCSAF will also visit all identified areas to verify locations, engage stakeholders and facilitate the preparation and signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs).
“The areas have already been entered into the NeST system for procurement and tendering processes,” he said.
Advocate Kandonga explained that the sites were selected based on their public importance and the large number of people they serve, including hospitals, health centres, markets, bus terminals and open public spaces.
In Geita Region, the service will be rolled out at Chato District Hospital and Katoro Health Centre.
For Kagera Region, areas that are set to benefit are Biharamulo Bus Terminal, Kayanga Bus Terminal, Rwenkorongo Market and Ngara Town Bus Terminal.
In Mara Region, the selected sites are Osogo Utegi grounds, Right To Play, Bunda Old Bus Stand and Mugumu Main Market. Mwanza Region will have services at Kwimba District Hospital and Mwamashimba Health Centre.
