TZ prepares for Beach Handball World Championship

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA’S beach handball coach, Moshi Ally, has expressed optimism as the preparations for the upcoming IHF Men’s Youth Beach Handball World Championship 2025 gain momentum.

Set to unfold in June in Tunisia, it will be the first time Tanzania competes at this level. The Tanzanian team has been drawn into Group B together with Hungary, Germany and Kenya.

Coach Ally believes that this grouping not only presents a challenge but also an invaluable opportunity for the young athletes to showcase their skills on an international stage.

“Our preparations are proceeding well. Some of our players took part in the Inter-Secondary Schools Games (UMISSETA) which were crucial for enhancing their experience and readiness for what lies ahead.

“This event is monumental for us, as it signifies Tanzania’s inaugural involvement in major beach handball competitions. It demonstrates our progress in developing lesserknown sports, while providing our youth with fresh opportunities to explore their potential on international platforms,” he noted.

Assistant Coach Jerry Mbulule agreed that it will be a nice experience for the lads, but they expect a tough battle considering that it is their first time and the caliber of their opponents.

“While this is our first foray into international competition, the enthusiasm of our players instils hope. Predicting the tactics of our opponents is difficult, given our lack of international experience, but we believe our players will learn and adapt quickly,” said Mbulule.

In addition to Tanzania’s Group B, the tournament features Group A with teams from Iran, Spain, Oman and Puerto Rico; Group C consisting of host nation Tunisia, Thailand, Mexico and the Cook Islands; and Group D which includes Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Senegal.
