TANZANIA: NATIONAL Women Team ‘Twiga Stars’ Head Coach, Bakari Shime has unveiled that they will make good use of the home venue to earn a spot at the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon), Morocco 2024.
Shime made the remarks during a press briefing ahead of today’s second qualifying round match against Togo at Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam.
“We are prepared to face Togo confidently. Our plans are to make sure that we win a big victory at our home ground. By winning, we will have a better chance of making it to Morocco for the Wafcon.
“In order for this to happen, I urge Tanzanians to come and support their team. Their support will be a catalyst for our success,” he said.
If Twiga Stars secure an aggregate win against Togo , they will qualify for the Wafcon finals . The finals include a total of 12 teams that will qualify for the group stage, and will join the automatically-qualified hosts – Morocco.
Similarly, Opah Clement, the National Team Skipper, spoke to the Press, highlighting the spirited ladies’ confidence and assured that they would perform with pride.
“All the players are happy with the training, and their confidence is high. We all want to qualify for the Wafcon finals. That’s the spirit. We want to win and qualify,” she said.
After the national team Press briefing, Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) President, Wallace Karia, motivated the ladies for their forthcoming match, that it is possible for them to win, despite the fact that the match will be tough, as their opponents are also a good side.
The girls of Tanzania marched into the second round following a 4-2 victory over Ivory Coast in a penalty shootout at Azam Complex, following a 2-2 aggregate in two-leg matches. It is expected to be a fierce match, as their counterparts Togo eliminated Burundi by 13-0 aggregate.
