Tri-Nation Kabaddi League gathers storm

ALL is set for Tanzania Kabaddi Season 1 league to commence next Tuesday at Saint Joseph University grounds in Dar es Salaam.

Speaking with the Daily News, Tanzania Kabaddi Association Chairman, Abdallah Nyoni the league which previously scheduled to start today, has been rescheduled to next week from Tuesday to Sunday.

While addressing this, he said Burundi will not participate in the league.

He confirmed the teams that will participate for Dar es Salaam city are Kilimanjaro Kabaddi team, Star Kabaddi team, Kaole, Buffalo, KMK, High View Secondary School.

Others are Mlaleni Secondary School and Kenton High School as notable entries from Tanzania.

‘’ All teams to participate in the league will also use the league to drill players for the Kabaddi World Cup finals,’’ he said this recently

He added that the teams continue to drill intensively so that to be more competent and win trophies, medals and other prizes at the end of the league.

Nyoni also reasoned that the aim of having the league is to pick the best teams and players ahead of the World Cup finals.

Adding, he said there is a demand for kabaddi players in the country as those who groomed are not enough.

He therefore called on various sports stakeholders including companies and institutions to also invest in the Kabaddi game so as to enable the association to groom a big number of players from different regions.

The regions include Kilimanjaro, Mbeya, and Dodoma.

Recently, two qualified coaches from India arrived to prepare national men’s and women’s teams for the World Cup finals in India.

The coaches; Simrat Gaikwad and N Soundarajan are in Tanzania to offer high caliber coaching and bring a huge revolution to the game.

The coaches will enable players to drill hard so that they can shine in the forthcoming World Cup competition.

He said the government under the National Sports Council (NSC) is involved in the whole setup by providing residency, accommodation as well the transport when the coaches execute their duties inside and outside the country.
