Trade, investment feature in UK speaker, Tanzania envoy talks
LONDON, UK: Tanzania’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Mr Mbelwa Kairuki, met and held talks with the Speaker of the UK Parliament, Rt Hon Sir Lindsay Hoyle, at the Speaker’s official residence on 18 June 2026.
The discussions focused on strengthening the long-standing relations between Tanzania and the United Kingdom, particularly in the areas of education, trade, investment, science and technology, as well as enhancing parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, High Commissioner Kairuki briefed the Speaker on Tanzania’s preparations to host the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly, scheduled to take place in Arusha in October 2026.
The Speaker expressed his support for the upcoming event and reaffirmed his commitment to further strengthening parliamentary cooperation between Tanzania and the United Kingdom.
The talks reflected the continued positive relations between Tanzania and the United Kingdom, as well as a shared commitment to advancing cooperation for the benefit of citizens in both countries.
Earlier this month, Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba has held talks with the British Ambassador to Tanzania, Marianne Young, in efforts to strengthen diplomatic and development cooperation between the two countries.
The discussions, held on June 5, 2026, at the Prime Minister’s office in the Parliament in Dodoma, focused on enhancing long-standing relations between Tanzania and the United Kingdom across key economic and social sectors.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continued collaboration in areas that support development, investment and improved social welfare, underscoring the importance of sustained diplomatic engagement for mutual benefit.
