TRA wins best financial statement award

THE Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has won the overall award for the best prepared financial statements in the governmental and non-governmental institutions category.
The authority scooped the award after preparing its financial books by observing International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) for the year 2021.
The award was granted to TRA by the National Board of Accountants and Auditors (NBAA) in a ceremony held at APCC International Conference Center in Bunju area in the outskirts of Dar es Salaam.
TRA Deputy Commissioner for Tax Investigation Robert Manyama said that the authority won the award due to committed leadership which emphasis on adhering to standards.
“We are delighted for this award because it enhances the authority’s credibility to the tax payers…when a public entity get these kind of awards it is an indication that we are doing a good job of collecting taxes for the country’s development,” he said.
He called upon other government institutions to participate in NBAA competition in order to increase efficiency and win public trust.
For her part, NBAA Chairperson Professor Sylvia Temu said that her board has observed international standards in getting the winner.
She cited TRA as an example of government institutions which provided clear information in its financial statements, thus giving confidence to taxpayers that their money are in safe hands before being channeled to the government.
