TRA to continue facilitating business for investors

DAR ES SALAAM: COMMISSIONER General of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) Yusuph Mwenda has said that the authority will continue to facilitate business for investors and collaborate with them on tax matters, while warning companies and traders involved in tax evasion.

Speaking in Dar es Salaam on March 23, 2026, during a tax meeting with Chinese businesspeople operating in the country, Commissioner General Mwenda stated that TRA recognises and values the contribution of these traders and Chinese companies in tax compliance, while cautioning a few who engage in fraudulent practices.

At the meeting, which was also attended by the Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania, Ms Chen Mingjian, Commissioner Mwenda said TRA will continue to support these businesspeople so they can conduct their operations fairly and peacefully in accordance with the existing tax policies and laws under the Authority.

“TRA has no conflict with Chinese businesspeople operating in the country; rather, it has a conflict with those who evade taxes. Anyone who evades taxes in our country whether from China or any other nation has a problem with us,” said Mwenda.

He added that in order to build a stable, fair, modern, and less burdensome tax system, TRA has started implementing some of the 284 recommendations from the Presidential Tax Reform Committee formed by President Samia Suluhu Hassan specifically those that do not require legal amendments but relate to administration in order to further simplify the tax payment environment in the country.

She said that China does not tolerate tax evasion among its businesspeople and praised the meeting, noting that it provides more opportunities for them to learn about taxation.

Chairperson of the Business Forum, Stambuli Myovela, commended TRA for its continued efforts to improve the tax payment environment, emphasising that it creates opportunities for businesspeople to pay taxes efficiently and voluntarily
