TPDF donates blood to mark its 61st anniversary

MTWARA: The donation of safe blood was among the humanitarian aid items the Tanzania People’s Defence Force (TPDF) donated today, September 1, 2025, during the celebration marking its 61st anniversary at Nangwanda Stadium in Mtwara.
Besides donating safe blood, TPDF also cleaned the environment around its camps before later staging many sporting events.
The celebrations that took place today involved all TPDF units and groups from the region.
Speaking during the event, Colonel James Mwakinyuke, TPDF Reserve Unit Advisor for Mtwara Region, said the event was held to commemorate the birth of the defense force since its founding in 1964.
“We have gathered all our defense units and groups of the Tanzania People’s Defense Force here today to mark the anniversary, the day of the birth or formation of the TPDF in 1964,” Colonel Mwakinyuke said.

He explained that the anniversary is celebrated annually and is accompanied by various community activities such as environmental cleanliness, especially at the Ligula Referral Hospital, and safe blood donation drives, an activity that has been emphasized at the highest levels of government as a key community service priority.
This year, the celebrations were enhanced with the addition of friendly sports games aimed at bringing joy and strengthening the relationship between the defense forces and the community. Among the games was a friendly match between TPDF and the Mtwara Regional Police Force.
He said TPDF continues to be at the forefront not only in defending the country’s borders but also actively participating in community activities as part of its commitment to promoting unity and development among the people of Tanzania.
