Tight Premier League title race as Simba beat Young Africans

Young Africans have dropped maximum points after suffering a 2-0 loss from their traditional rivalsĀ  Simba SC.

The game at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Sunday evening was the 26th league fixture for the duo.

And it was the first Premier League derby win for Msimbazi based team since 2019.

Center-back Henock Inonga and Kibu Denis netted in the first half to propel their side to a massive victory.

Despite the setback, Yanga continue to sit at the summit of the league table with 68 points.

For the Reds, they remain on second place with 63 points in the bag and are still key title contenders of the premier league.

“Our game plan was to finish the match early and we are glad to have accomplished it well,” said Simba Assistant Coach Juma Mgunda after the encounter.

Up next, the two giants focus on CAF Inter-club Games as Simba host Wydad Casablanca in the quarterfinals of the Champions League next week.

For Yanga, they travel to Nigeria to play Rivers United in the last eight of the Confederation Cup.
