Theopista laid to rest, scores pay last respect

DAR ES SALAAM: FAMILY and friends gathered yesterday to pay their last respects and later participated in the burial of the Tanzania Standard (Newspapers) (TSN) Limited journalist, Theopista Nsanzugwako (46) at Ulongoni cemetery, Ilala District in Dar es Salaam.

Hundreds of mourners including media professionals turned out in large numbers at the deceased home, Majumba Sita and later at St Yuda Tadei the Apostle Roman Catholic Church to pay their last respect to the body of the fallen HabariLEO journalist.

Theopista, passed away on Thursday while receiving treatment at the Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) in Dar es Salaam.

Speaking after the funeral mass, the TSN Acting Manager of Kiswahili Media Services, Mr Mgaya Kingoba said the deceased was among the hardworking journalists who was committed to delivering well analysed stories.

He said the fallen journalist will be remembered for her hardworking spirit and creativity.

“I am proud to be one of the journalists who have worked with Theopista, she was such a hardworking journalist,” he said.

He added that Theopista was a person who worked skillfully and professionally during her lifetime since she joined the team in 2006.

Acting Manager of Foreign Languages Media Services, Mr Christopher Majaliwa described Theopista as someone who was ready to learn from anyone regardless of age.

Acting Chief Sub Editor for HabariLEO, Ms Stella Nyemenohi said the deceased would be remembered as a person who cooperated well with her colleagues and was a hard worker.

Theopista was born in 1978 in Mbeya Region. She went to Minazi Mirefu Primary School in Ilala, Dar es Salaam in 1992 and later joined Kisutu Secondary School in 1993 and graduated in 1996.

In 2000 she joined Dar es Salaam School of Journalism to pursue Basic Certificate course in Journalism before joining School of Journalism (TSJ) in 2001 where she pursued Advance Certificate in Journalism.

In 2018 she joined the Open University of Tanzania (OUT) to pursue BA in Mass Communication and graduated in 2021 with flying colours. She is survived by a husband and two children.
