TSN journalist Theopista Nsanzugwako promoted to glory

DAR ES SALAAM:TANZANIA Standard Newspapers (TSN) journalist Theopista Nsanzugwako has passed away.

Nsanzugwako, a prominent reporter for HabariLEO, the sister paper of Daily News, died on Wednesday at 9 a.m. while receiving treatment at Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) in Dar es Salaam.

She had been battling a long-term illness.

According to a statement issued TSN Managing Director, Ms Asha Dachi,  funeral arrangements are being coordinated by the office in collaboration with the deceased family.

According to the statement, the burial arrangements are ongoing at the deceased residence Majumba sita, Ilala District, Dar es Salaam.

The Acting Manager of Kiswahili Media Services, Mr Mgaya Kingoba said the deceased was among hardworking journalists who were  committed to delivering well analysed stories.

He said the fallen journalist will be remembered for her hardworking spirit and creativity.

“As TSN family especially HabariLEO we have been saddened by the demise of our colleague, we have lost a hardworking journalist,” he said.

He added that Theopista was a person who worked skilfully and professionally during her lifetime since she joined the team in 2006.

“Even when we started HabariLEO’s East African Edition in 2018 which comes out every Tuesday, Theopista was one of journalists who dedicated their time to write news and feature articles about East African region, her contribution will be remembered forever,” he noted.

“Through writing stories for the East African Edition, Theopista created good relations with various sources some being officials with East African community and ambassadors,”

Mr Kingoba added that the deceased was also good at following and reporting weather forecast news along with oil and gas stories.

Mr Christopher Majaliwa Acting Manager of Foreign Languages Media Services, recalled Nsanzugwako’s eagerness to learn and her contributions during the China Africa Press Centre media exchange programme in 2017.

“Theopista was always ready to learn and adapt,” he said. “Her work ethic and dedication were exemplary and she set a high standard for excellence.”

“Aside from being a part of the TSN family, in the short period that I have worked with Theo, I have realised that she was among the people who are ready to learn, I got the opportunity to work closely with the deceased during media exchange programme in China ‘China Africa Press Centre’ in 2017, she was a devoted writer and hardworking journalist,” he said.

“Theopista was tasked with publishing her stories in English, even though HabariLEO is a Kiswahili publication. She reached out to me for guidance and I remember being the Assistant News Editor at Daily News at that time. She was always eager to learn and follow instructions,” Majaliwa recalled.

“When I arrived in China the following year for the same programme, Theopista’s name became an example of people who did well in the programme in 2017.”

Stella Nyemenohi, Acting Chief Sub Editor for HabariLEO, described Nsanzugwako as a cooperative colleague and a diligent worker.

“She was well-regarded by her peers for her commitment and teamwork,” Nyemenohi added.

Nsanzugwako was born in 1978 in Mbeya Region. Her educational journey began at Minazi Mirefu Primary School and continued through Kisutu Secondary School. She earned a basic certificate in journalism from Dar es Salaam School of Journalism in 2000 and pursued an advanced certificate from the School of Journalism (TSJ) in 2001.

In 2018 she joined the Open University of Tanzania (OUT) to pursue BA in Mass Communication.
