DODOMA: THE Tanzania Gender Network Programme (TGNP), in collaboration with organisations and stakeholders advocating for women’s rights and gender equality, is hosting the 7th District Level Gender Festival in Kondoa District, Dodoma.

The three-day event begins today and will conclude on Thursday, drawing over 280 participants from across the country.

In a statement to journalists, TGNP Director General Ms Lilian Liundi announced that the festival will be officially inaugurated today by Dodoma Regional Commissioner Ms Rosemary Senyamule.

The event will centre around the theme, “Inclusive Vision 2050: Planning 30 Years After Beijing.”

“The Gender Festival is a key platform for TGNP to build collective strength. It brings together women and human rights stakeholders annually to exchange experiences, celebrate achievements, evaluate challenges and plan strategies to address these challenges,” said Ms Liundi.

One of the main topics of discussion will be enhancing women’s involvement in leadership roles, particularly in the upcoming local government elections and the 2025 General Election.

Ms Liundi said that, 30 years after the Beijing Conference, there is a need to address the current representation of women in leadership positions.

“Although we now have a female president for the first time, women parliamentarians currently make up only 37 per cent of the legislature, with 9.5 per cent being elected MPs and 29 per cent being special seat MPs,” she noted.

Another key topic will be the allocation of financial resources to marginalised communities.

Discussions will focus on ensuring that national resources, particularly those collected through the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), effectively reach those in greatest need.

The festival will also address the impact of technology and climate change on development.

Participants will explore strategies for promoting clean energy and encouraging the government to set prices and guidelines to make clean energy accessible to rural communities.

Social movements and the engagement of diverse age groups will be another focus, examining how these groups participate in development initiatives and how they can contribute to creating a fairer society.

This aligns with the 2025 Vision and the upcoming 2050 Vision.

Additionally, the festival will feature various presentation methods, including entertainment, to provide participants with opportunities to exchange knowledge and experiences.
