TFF reopens Jamhuri Stadium after upgrades

DODOMA: DODOMA’s Jamhuri Stadium has officially been given a new lease of life, with the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) lifting its temporary ban after crucial renovations brought the venue up to standard.

This development was confirmed on Sunday via TFF’s official social media channels, marking a triumphant return for the stadium to the NBC Premier League calendar.

The stadium, which had been sidelined due to substandard infrastructure, now meets the stringent requirements outlined in the Club Licensing Regulations.

In an official statement dated 30th March, the federation’s Media and Communication Officer, Clifford Ndimbo, underscored the importance of these upgrades, which paved the way for the stadium’s reinstatement.

Jamhuri Stadium was initially deemed unfit for hosting matches after an inspection highlighted various infrastructural shortcomings.

However, following an extensive refurbishment effort, the venue has successfully met the rules and regulations governing the quality of football pitches.

“The stadium has undergone thorough inspection and now meets the required standards following the necessary renovations,” read part of the official TFF statement.
The federation also seized the opportunity to remind football clubs and stadium owners of their responsibility to maintain high-quality playing surfaces.

“TFF continues to urge clubs to invest in improving the infrastructure of their home grounds and to collaborate with stadium owners to ensure matches are played on pitches that enhance competition and add value to the league,” the statement further noted.

Jamhuri Stadium is not the only Tanzanian venue that has found itself under the regulatory microscope. Lately, Dar es Salaam’s Benjamin Mkapa Stadium faced a temporary ban imposed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) due to concerns over the pitch’s deteriorating condition.
CAF’s intervention led to a swift response from the TFF, which ensured the necessary upgrades were implemented to bring the stadium back in line with international standards.

Likewise, Mwanza’s CCM Kirumba Stadium was also temporarily shut down on 10th March after failing to meet the licensing requirements. However, after necessary improvements, the ban was lifted on 20th March, allowing the stadium to resume hosting top-tier matches.
