DAR ES SALAAM: THE Temeke Municipal Council has approved a 172bn/- budget for the 2025/26 financial year, marking a 10 percent increase from last year’s 161bn/-.
According to the municipality’s economist, Mr Gervas Lupembe, the budget will be funded through internal revenue and project grants from the central government.
“The budget allocates 30percent for administrative operations, while 70 per cent will fund development projects,” Lupembe said.
He said among the key projects planned are the construction of two inclusive schools in Mbagala and Temeke constituencies , catering to students from Grade 1 to Form 4.
He also added that the municipality will also build two major hospitals, upgrade social services, improve road infrastructure, and expand its loan program.

Furthermore Mr Lupemebe said, the loan allocation has increased from 3bn/- in 2024/25 to 4bn, aiming to provide greater financial support to residents.
“As our revenue collections grow, we are committed to expanding loan services. The municipal council’s goal is to enhance revenue each year to improve service delivery to residents,” Mr Lupembe added.
Kiburugwa Ward Councilor in Temeke region Ms Fatma Shija emphasized that the budget incorporates measures to address key challenges, including improving allowances for local leaders and including allowances for local leaders and office rental costs for local government offices.
“We have worked to ensure every local government has an office, and where there is no building, rent should not be an obstacle,” she said.

Ms Shija also commended President Samia Suluhu Hassan for the recent recruitment of teachers, which has enabled the municipality to receive 71 science teachers.
“Our secondary schools have struggled with a shortage of science teachers, forcing us to rely on contract staff. With this recruitment, we are grateful to the President for addressing this critical gap,” she added.
