Tegis targets CAF Confederation Cup golden boot

SINGIDA: SINGIDA Black Stars prolific striker Mathew Tegis has set his sights on winning the CAF Confederation Cup Golden Boot after helping the Tanzanian side progress beyond the preliminary round of the competition.

Singida Black Stars will face Kenya’s Tusker FC in the next round of the CAF Confederation Cup after the Kenyan side eliminated Sudanese club Al Ahli Wad Madani. Tegis has made an explosive start to his continental campaign, scoring a hat-trick in Singida Black Stars’ 7-1 first-leg victory over Al Ghazala Wau.

The team followed that performance with a 3-0 win in the return leg to comfortably secure progression to the next stage.

Speaking in an exclusive interview yesterday, the former Pamba Jiji forward said his impressive start in the continental tournament had strengthened his belief that he can compete for the top-scoring award and make history.

“I know Tusker because I faced them while playing for Shabana FC. Although I didn’t score against them then, I pity them if we meet again now,” Tegis said.

“My football ambitions are high. I am thinking about making history by winning the African Golden Boot,” he said.

Despite his success in Africa, the Kenyan striker admitted that he has yet to find his best form in the domestic Premier League.

However, he remains confident that his performances will improve as the season progresses.

“It is true I haven’t been sharp in the Premier League yet, but it is still early days and I haven’t given up. Singida BS is a big club with experienced, highquality players,” he mentioned.

“I believe I will bounce back strongly and the team will perform well despite our initial results,” he said.
