TCU opens first admission window for 2025/26 academic year

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) has officially opened the first admission window for undergraduate degree applicants wishing to join higher learning institutions in the country for the 2025/2026 academic year.

A statement issued by the Commission on Tuesday urged prospective applicants and the general public to exercise caution and refrain from engaging with fraudsters posing as agents or consultants who purport to offer university admission services.

“TCU does not recognise any individual or institution acting as an intermediary in the admission process. All applications should be submitted directly through the Central Admission System (CAS),” the statement read in part.

The Commission further reminded applicants to carefully read and adhere to the admission guidelines provided on its official website to ensure a smooth and transparent application process.

Speaking at a press briefing in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday, TCU Executive Secretary Prof Charles Kihampa announced that the undergraduate application window opened on Tuesday and will remain open until August 10 of this year.

He outlined three eligible categories of applicants: Those with appropriate Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education (Form Six) qualifications, the majority group; those with recognised diploma qualifications or their equivalents; and holders of foundation certificates awarded by the Open University of Tanzania (OUT).

“To understand the specific entry requirements for each category, as well as the accredited institutions and approved programmes, applicants should consult the official TCU admission guidelines available on the TCU website (www.tcu.go.tz),” he said.

Prof Kihampa emphasised that applications must be submitted directly to the universities of the applicant’s choice, through the respective institutions’ electronic systems and that applicants should select the programmes they wish to pursue.

“Tanzanian applicants with academic certificates issued by foreign examination bodies must submit their certificates to the National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA) for secondary school certificates or to the National Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NACTVET) for diploma certificates, in order to obtain equivalency verification before applying,” he added.

He further clarified that non-Tanzanian applicants with foreign academic credentials should submit their applications directly through the electronic platforms of the respective institutions.

TCU has reiterated the importance of applying directly to universities and cautioned the public against falling prey to conmen claiming to facilitate university admissions under the guise of being agents.
