REA pledges to complete distribution of power in all rural hamlets by 2030

DODOMA: THE Tanzanian government is committed to completing electricity distribution projects in all rural hamlets by 2030, a move expected to boost social and economic activities among citizens, Director General of the Rural Energy Agency (REA), Engineer Hassan Saidy, has said.

Eng. Saidy made the remarks on Wednesday in Dodoma while addressing a working session for REA staff aimed at reviewing the implementation of the Agency’s responsibilities, progress of ongoing projects and measures to strengthen project management to ensure that REA’s targets are achieved on schedule.

Emphasising the responsibility of REA staff in fulfilling the Government’s commitment to expanding access to energy in rural areas, Eng. Saidy said, “We carry the hopes of the people,” urging staff to recognise that the success of the projects directly affects citizens’ lives and development activities.

He also urged project managers to perform their duties with professionalism, accountability and integrity, while closely monitoring project implementation in their respective areas and ensuring that challenges that could delay projects are addressed promptly.

Eng. Saidy stressed that cooperation, effective monitoring and accountability by every staff member are essential to ensuring that projects are implemented to the required standards and completed on time, enabling citizens to benefit from electricity services and use them for productive and development activities.

Through the implementation of these projects, REA continues to support Government efforts to expand access to energy in rural areas while promoting productive use of electricity as a catalyst for improving household economies and accelerating development in rural communities.
