DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) has kicked off its celebrations for International Girls in ICT Day 2025 with a five-day training program for female students with special needs from Jangwani and Mbweni Teta Secondary Schools.
The program, which ran from March 10 to 14, this year , took place at Kijitonyama Science Secondary School in Dar es Salaam.
Engineer Mwanahamisi Suleiman, who is also a member of the organizing committee for the event from TCRA, said, “The students have been learning through hands-on activities, offering ideas, presenting, and then designing solutions to challenges based on the needs of the target users (user-centric design) within their communities.”
This year, TCRA is set to reach five groups of female students in preparation for the International Girls in ICT Day 2025 celebrations on April 24, 2025.
These groups include girls from early childhood education (kindergarten), primary schools, secondary schools, female students with special needs in secondary schools, and university students.
It has been seven years since this event was officially launched by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and as a member, TCRA has reached over 4,000 girls.
The Day was initiated purposely to inspire and encourage young women and girls to pursue studies in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), as well as engage in ICT sector activities.
This initiative aims to reduce the gender gap in the ICT industry and contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal number 5 (Gender Equality).
