Rwanda’s RURA visits TCRA to learn how it regulates and manages the communications sector

DAR ES SALAAM: A four-member delegation from the Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA) has visited the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) for a study tour aimed at exchanging experience, knowledge and best practices in the regulation and development of the communications sector.

The delegation was led by Charles Gahungu, General Manager of ICT Regulation, and included specialists Jean d’Amour Tuyisere, , Karasira Denis and Jean Pierre Bizimana..

During the visit, the RURA delegation had an opportunity to learn how TCRA carries out its mandate of overseeing and regulating Tanzania’s communications sector.

The delegation was briefed on the systems, procedures and practical experience employed by TCRA to promote the growth and competitiveness of the communications sector and ensure the delivery of quality services to the public.

The study tour also provided an opportunity for the two regulatory authorities to exchange experiences on the challenges they face in carrying out their respective mandates, as well as their achievements, innovations and approaches to regulating the communications sector.

The visit is part of TCRA’s ongoing engagement with communications regulatory authorities from different countries to facilitate knowledge sharing and exchange of experience on effective approaches to regulating and managing the sector.

TCRA has continued to receive study delegations from communications regulatory authorities across Africa, including Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Mozambique, Mali, Comoros, Zambia, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

Through such study visits, TCRA and other regulatory authorities have gained opportunities to learn from one another about regulatory frameworks, technological developments, policies and approaches aimed at strengthening the management and oversight of the communications sector.
