DODOMA: THE Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) has commended Minister for Minerals Anthony Mavunde following the official launch of a new basketball court he constructed at Kiwanja cha Ndege Secondary School in Dodoma.
The TBF recognised the court as a significant contribution to promoting the sport and fostering youth engagement in basketball across the region.
The launching held over the weekend at the Country Capital City Dodoma, saw Dodoma Secondary School basketball team secured a narrow 17-16 victory over host Kiwanja cha Ndege Secondary.
This event marked the official launch of the Anthony Mavunde Basketball Court constructed at Kiwanja cha Ndege Secondary School a donation from Minister for Minerals Mavunde.
Michael Kadebe, president of the TBF, expressed his satisfaction with the event, noting the significance of Minister Mavunde’s commitment to enhancing youth sports opportunities.
“It’s encouraging to see promises being fulfilled, providing avenues for young people to engage in sports and showcase their talents,” Kadebe remarked.
The court was inaugurated at Airport Secondary School after an exciting game between the two secondary school teams.

Kadebe highlighted the importance of this facility explained: “This court is one of the commitments made during the Member of Parliament visits to the school.
On behalf of the federation, we are grateful for this support.” In addition to the court, the TBF provided basketballs to both teams and announced plans to collaborate with Minister Mavunde and the school’s administration to establish the Anthony Mavunde Basketball Academy.
This initiative aims to train young athletes through coaching from local experts and the school’s sports staff according to Kadebe.
Kadebe emphasised that the new court will not only promote health well-being among students, but also help identify talent for local leagues, national youth teams and ultimately the senior national squads.
He pointed out that many talented youths struggle to find adequate facilities to develop their skills, making support from stakeholders like Mavunde crucial in advancing the government’s efforts to promote sports under President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s leadership
