Tanzania’s insurance beneficiaries hit 25.9m in 2025

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Commissioner of the Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority (TIRA), Dr. Baghayo Saqware, has said that the beneficiaries of insurance services in the country have increased from 14 million in 2021 to 25.9 million in 2025 as the campaign continues, so that more citizens can benefit.

Speaking today in Dar es Salaam at a working session between Editors and Journalists under the coordination of the Treasury Registrar’s Office, he said assets and capital in the insurance market have increased from Sh 1.2 trillion in 2021 to Sh 2.3 trillion this year.

“This success is due to the good implementation of policies under the Honorable President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, and these achievements are more statistically significant,” he said.

He also said that these achievements are due to the campaign and education provided by the authorities through various systems, including the media in the country.

He further explained that the number of service providers has increased from 933 in 2021 to 2,425 this year, with an increase in new service providers, including health, digital, and insurance, increasing from one to four.

He noted that there has been an increase in insurance companies from 32 in 2021 to 35 companies, with many investors attracted by the favorable investment environment in the country.

Dr. Baghayo said the government has successfully enacted the Universal Health Insurance Act of 2023 and its regulations.

“The Universal Health Insurance Act of 2023 provides citizens with access to comprehensive and accurate health services and this law is going to increase the number of health service users, improving the lives of citizens, especially when they pass health cards.

He said the government has succeeded in making improvements to the 2022 financial law, and the government considered it important for its projects implemented in the country to be insured to protect it along with infrastructure.

He explained that another thing is the establishment of an agricultural consortium that has 15 companies and an oil and gas consortium, where there is a union of 22 companies to participate in the country’s oil and gas economy as a sector.

“We have succeeded in strengthening IT systems due to the instructions of President Dr. Samia, where the authority has made great strides and has been able to integrate its system with the Central Bank of TANZANIA, the Tanzania Revenue Authority, LATRA, TASAC, and NIDA,” he explained

He added, “The expectation is to integrate more than 30 institutions on the mainland and islands so that citizens can easily access services.
