Tanzania’s diplomatic missions hailed for promoting their country‘s attractions globally

DODOMA: THE Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mr Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, has said Tanzania’s diplomatic missions around the world have played a critical role in facilitating and driving the government’s achievements across various sectors, including agriculture, transport, trade and energy.

Ambassador Kombo made the remarks on August 11, 2026, during a meeting between the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security (NUU) and the management of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation. The meeting was held at the Parliament premises in Dodoma under the chairmanship of the Committee’s Chairperson, Najma Murtaza Giga.

He said Tanzania’s diplomatic missions have made a significant contribution to facilitating the implementation of various development projects and economic activities, including securing financing for infrastructure development and creating economic opportunities.

“In short, our embassies are involved in every aspect of the achievements being realised in the country, including securing financing for infrastructure projects such as the modern railway, aircraft procurement, obtaining flight permits for Air Tanzania (ATCL), generating government revenue through tourism and visa fees paid by foreign visitors, as well as accessing opportunities in the blue economy,” Ambassador Kombo said.

He explained that, through its network of diplomatic missions, the Ministry has continued to implement its responsibilities in accordance with the Foreign Policy of 2001, as revised in 2024. He said the implementation of the policy has enabled Tanzania to achieve a range of successes that have benefited the country.

According to Ambassador Kombo, these achievements include expanding Tanzania’s diplomatic representation abroad, increasing opportunities for trade and foreign direct investment, strengthening bilateral relations with other countries, and securing grants and concessional loans.

He also noted that the use of Kiswahili has continued to expand globally, increasing Tanzania’s role in promoting the language internationally and strengthening its influence within the international community.

Members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security commended the Ministry for its efforts to strengthen Tanzania’s diplomacy and protect the country’s interests within the international community.

They urged the Ministry to step up its efforts in various areas to further strengthen Tanzania’s diplomatic engagement and ensure that the country continues to maintain a strong position and influence in international affairs.
